Gabriel first came to South Africa in 1935, importing all products from the US. Production in South Africa started in 1962 and some time later, in 1984, Gabriel South Africa made its own contribution to Gabriel’s innovative history with the design andmanufacturer of the “gas springs” which were promptly adopted by Gabriel plants worldwide.
Gabriel Wings:
Gabriel Wings flight team leader Scully Levin is by far the best known aerobatic pilot in South Africa. He was instrumental in the late 1970s and early 1980s in getting the first aerobatic teams sponsored in South Africa.
Scully and his team have enthralled hundreds of Control Instruments customers at several customer days held at the Rand Airport in 2008,2009 and 2010.

African Expedition Force:
Gabriel shock absorbers and Warn winches in partnership with United Against Malaria (UAM), explorer Kingsley Holgate, the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) SA and a number of sponsors have completed an expedition to Central African Republic (CAR) to deliver 2000 malaria nets.
  
There are 1-million malaria deaths each year in Africa. One child dies every 30 seconds in Africa of malaria. 91% of malaria deaths occur in Africa, 85% of these are children under five, and 40% of African health expenditure is on malaria alone.
